IKEA PAX Fit & Assembly Check

Will your IKEA PAX fit under the ceiling, along the wall and in front of nearby furniture? Compare your measurements, check door space and build a useful preparation list before ordering or assembly.

Start With Your Measurements

Will Your IKEA PAX Fit in the Room?

Use the final configuration dimensions. This checks one straight wardrobe run and highlights what still needs review. It works in inches or centimeters, with no registration.

Your PAX Configuration

Measure or read the complete configuration. Include doors, handles, leveling and planned fillers where relevant.

A starting point fills only the finished height. Confirm your exact frame, feet and configuration before using that value.

A rear offset adds to the floor footprint. It does not confirm that spacers, baseboards or an offset mounting method are suitable.

Your Room

Measure from the finished floor. Use the narrowest usable wall width and the space from the rear wall to the nearest obstruction in front.

Installation Conditions

Use the sequence specified for your frame. The tilt option is a geometry comparison for older rigid frames.

You can still check the room dimensions without this value. The installation-height requirement will remain unresolved.

Your extra allowance beyond each calculated requirement. This is not an IKEA installation standard.

Your measurements stay in this browser. This tool does not send a quote request or confirm wall strength, fixings, product compatibility or delivery access.

Keep these three checks separate

  • Final footprint: the complete height, width and depth after assembly.
  • Installation space: room needed during the steps in your exact instructions.
  • Operating space: room for doors, drawers and everyday access.

Use the illustrated measuring guide if any dimension is unclear.

Measure the Actual Space

Four Measurements That Make a PAX Plan More Useful

A room drawing is a helpful start. However, the finished floor, wall details and complete furniture configuration decide the usable space.

Measure ceiling height at three positions along the wardrobe wallLeftCenterRight
Use the lowest ceiling measurement across the complete run.

Ceiling Height Above the Finished Floor

Measure at the left, center and right of the planned wardrobe. If the ceiling slopes or the floor rises, add more measurements and use the lowest clear height.

Include carpet, new flooring and any height added by leveling. Also check lights, beams and other projections. A measurement taken elsewhere in the room may overstate the space above the frame.

Compare the full planned wardrobe width with the narrowest usable spaceTotal planned widthCheck wall width at several heights
Count every frame and any planned side space or finishing material.

Complete Width of the Wardrobe Run

Compare the full plan with the narrowest wall width at floor, middle and top levels. Uneven corners can reduce the usable width even when the floor measurement looks generous.

Include approved fillers and required connection access in your planned width. For a recess or corner, review the article-specific assembly order before assuming the frame can be put together in place.

Closed Depth and Opening Space

Use the finished depth, including doors and protruding handles. Next, measure from the rear wall to the nearest bed, wall or other obstruction in front.

For hinged doors, add their projection at the angle you need. Sliding doors save swing space, but their rails and panel positions still affect installation and drawer access. Check pull-out fittings separately.

Rear Wall, Baseboard and Fastening

Check trim, outlets, pipes and the wall connection at the intended location. Foldable PAX frames with a rail rely on the specified wall mounting. Older frames also require the restraints in their instructions.

If you rent, confirm permission before scheduling. Wall material, suitable fixings and concealed services need a physical review. A calculator cannot determine them from room dimensions.

IKEA PAX Ceiling Height: Useful U.S. Planning References

Selected current U.S. foldable-frame product information gives the values below for upright assembly and sliding doors. Your exact article instructions can require more space during unfolding, handling or installation. Use the highest applicable requirement in the check above.

Reference values for selected current U.S. PAX frames; confirm the full sequence for your article number.
Frame size labelUpright referenceWith sliding doors
79⅛″ frame79½″ ceiling80¾″ ceiling
92⅞″ frame93¼″ ceiling94½″ ceiling

Watch the finished dimensions: a nominal frame-size label may differ from the finished height shown for the full product. In particular, feet, leveling, doors and added trim can change the envelope you need to compare.

For an older frame raised from the floor: the highest corner of a rigid rectangular frame follows a diagonal. The geometric envelope is √(height² + depth²), before any extra handling allowance. This is only a geometry check; confirm the permitted method and space around the frame.

Turn the Check Into a Better Plan

What to Do With Your Result

Use the measurements to resolve the specific obstacle before buying, assembling or moving the wardrobe.

Before Ordering

Recheck the marked dimensions, door type and wall permission. If space is short, compare another height or configuration using its actual dimensions and installation requirements.

Before Assembly

Keep the final location clear and check the article numbers, boxes and required components. For local help, send your plan to our PAX assembly service.

Before Moving Furniture

Room fit does not establish a delivery route or reassembly condition. Check doors and turns, then review furniture disassembly and reassembly for the specific piece.

PAX Planning Questions

Fit & Assembly Check FAQ

These answers explain where measurements help and where the exact construction needs a closer look.

Will a tall IKEA PAX fit under an 8-foot ceiling?

An 8-foot ceiling measures 96 inches. Compare that height with the finished configuration and the highest ceiling requirement in its full assembly sequence. Some upright reference values are below 96 inches, but unfolding, handling, doors or lighting may require more space.

Can I use the same ceiling requirement for every PAX?

No. Frame generation, height, doors and assembly method matter. First identify the article number. Then check every relevant stage in its instructions. Use the highest ceiling requirement, rather than only the height of the completed frame.

What is different about a foldable PAX frame?

A foldable frame has a connected construction that opens out and uses a specified wall rail. Its sequence differs from an older frame assembled from separate panels. The old rectangular tilt-up calculation is not applied to the foldable option in this tool.

Can I install PAX without fastening it to the wall?

Follow the wall-mounting or restraint requirement for your exact frame. A foldable rail-mounted frame needs its specified wall connection. If wall fastening is restricted, resolve permission and the mounting plan before assembly. Fitting in the room does not remove that requirement.

Does the tool check hinges, drawers and sliding-door compatibility?

It compares entered room dimensions and an optional hinged-door projection. It does not verify a complete parts combination. Check hinge positions, drawer heights, pull-out travel and the opening left by sliding panels against your chosen configuration.

Can I move an assembled PAX into the measured space?

The room result does not check the route or the condition of an existing wardrobe. Doorways, turns, stairs and the construction can change the plan. For Philadelphia-area projects, our wardrobe assembly service can review the model and photographs.

Can I send you the result for a local assembly quote?

Yes. Use Copy Project Summary, open our quote page and paste the summary into Notes. Include the product link or article number, frames, doors, drawers and ZIP code. The quote form explains how to send project photographs afterward.

Is this PAX checker free to use outside Philadelphia?

Yes. Anyone can use the planning check without registration. Our in-person assembly service covers Philadelphia and selected nearby suburbs. Check our service areas when planning a local visit.
